Our friends struggle through the Eastern Sands in search of the oasis, which they eventually spot. Wanting to remain unnoticed, they approach the oasis cautiously.
The Resistancers of Lokos camp at the oasis where they find a special wall of branches.
Meanwhile, Dronov and Elise meet two other Syndicate members under mysterious circumstances to discuss Angus' plan. They are Doctor Hotan and Rose Lady Shante. Syndicate member Numma Magnatis was supposed to join as well, but he doesn't, much to Shante's displeasure. Shante and Hotan listen to Dronov and Elise's story.
Dronov talks about the part of Angus' plan: Offensive 1, the attack on Lokos in broad daylight, which should have been followed by a total surprise invasion towards the west, via Lokos to Thyra, Offensive 2.
During the watch of Para at their camp, she suddenly realizes what that wall of branches is supposed to mean. At the moment she realizes what, she is already startled by a movement in the shadow in the gully beyond the water of the oasis. Soon the friends are also awake and wait in suspense.
It's an oohowl! And the wall of branches is a life-size nest where the eggs of the enormous oohowllie. After a shocking encounter with daddy oohowl, the heroes manage to overpower him and escape thanks to the brave actions of halberd fighter Toai.
Kidnapped by two mysterious figures, Vidia Scuto Rubro wakes up in a filthy cell and is soon subjected to a gruesome procedure…
